Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial attempts at stardom within the mainstream world of music failed. Perry was signed to two labels before being then dropped by both labels before there was a release date for any of her recordings. However, in 2007, Capitol Records put out Perry's EP Ur So Gay which attracted only a little attention because of its flippant title track. I Kissed a Girl - an ode to sexual curiosity dropped a couple of months later. It had a hard electro-pop sound and a strong attitude. A few critics accused it as a sly reference to homosexuality, while others claimed that the song's raunchy lyrics were intended to attract male fantasies. Nevertheless the combination of titillation and polished melodicism helped I Kissed a Girl become an instant hit across multiple countries, generating the album sales of the Boys (2008). Hot N Cold, Perry's bouncy and sharply-tongued album with the second single that became a hit, also proved popular. The album which Perry wrote by herself sold more than 3 million copies.
