Lady Starlight was a performer Gaga encountered during this time. Vince Herbert signed Gaga to Streamline Records in 2007 after an appearance at the Lollapalooza Festival. Gaga signed a publishing agreement with Sony/ATV after having been an apprentice songwriter for Famous Music Publishing. In the end, she was hired to write music for Britney Spears, as well as labelmates New Kids on the Block, Fergie, and the Pussycat Dolls. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. Gaga's first album, "The Fame", was released in 2008 to a lack of interest from the radio. Gaga went on tour in Europe and in the US to promote the album. However, it wasn't until Gaga got her first big hit, "Just Dance", that mainstream attention began to come to the music industry. Gaga was suffering from a laceration to the labrum in her right hip. She had been taking care of it in secret for several months, hoping to be in a position to continue her tour. She was unable to walk after a concert in Toronto and was suffering from severe discomfort. The tour was cancelled.
