Amanda Brugel

Tessa Tessa Amanda AmandaPointe Claire is a sleepy area on the island of Montreal that is known as the West Island. The West Island, which is commonly referred to as being a distinct "island" located west of Montreal for those unfamiliar with it, actually is a whole area east of Lachine. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island, although her time there was brief. Brugel lived in Courtice close to Oshawa. She had a dream to become an instructor in her first year but because of the speed of growth, she surpassed all dance partners. In an article published in the Toronto Star she admitted, "In heels at 6' 1 inch. After I grew beyond the male colleagues I had been working with, I resigned. A lot of former dancers go into acting. For Brugel her encouragement came from a teacher of drama at the high school. Her teacher urged her to participate of the production at her school. The student tried it out, and got the role of lead on the show Anne of Green Gables. It led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000.In the more than 20 years that followed, Brugel has landed roles in more than 60 productions both on small and big screens. Her most notable role attracted notice when she won the lead role of Rita in the award-winning show, The Handmaid's Tale
